The Story

Spend a Season with the Greatest Basketball Coach No One has Ever Heard of...

Coach Fletcher ArrittA story about a man in his 42nd year as biology teacher and head post-graduate basketball coach at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. Well-known in the basketball community for honesty, integrity, energy, and "old school" principles, Fletcher Arritt has run his program the same way for the past 40 years--same offense, defense, and practice. Over the past four decades, Arritt has sent over 500 players from his program to play among the college ranks--winning well over 800 games along the way. Now nearing retirement, Arritt endeavors to mold yet another group of 12 high school graduates into college prospects. For each of them, it is the most important year of their lives. For Arritt, it is one more season at the helm of the one-year prep program, and at least one more chance to change 12 lives.

An Uplifting sports story illustrating the utility of "Old School" values...

Arritt's players are treated just as any other cadet within the confines of the Academy gates. They are subject to the same schedule, chores, and must submit to the direction of cadet officers. On the court, Arritt instills the values of his system with a keen focus on such "trivial" concerns as the height of socks and the everyday donning of jock straps. This feature-length documentary film follows the journey of the 2007-08 team interwoven with the story of Arritt's four decade career. It features commentary from former players and some of basketball's best coaches--all of whom shed light on Arritt's impact on their careers and today's game.
