The Passing Game is a feature-length independent documentary film. It is being written, directed, filmed, edited and produced by former Arritt player, Phil Wall (FUMA '03, Williams College '07). Wall is one of the hundreds of Arritt’s players who credits Coach Arritt as having a transformational effect on his life. Wall followed Arritt's story from 2007 to 2018, capturing those last years of his career as a teacher and coach.
The production of the film will only be possible with the support of individuals and foundations.
The film has been selected as a Southern Documentary Fund project. The Southern Documentary Fund is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) arts organization that cultivates documentaries made in or about the American South. Inspired by the core belief that documentaries have the power to change lives, SDF serves as a leading advocate for powerful Southern storytelling, providing filmmakers with professional support, fiscal sponsorship, and creative community. The relationship with the SDF allows tax deductible donations towards the completion of The Passing Game. Funds from the SDF have allowed for the filming of Arritt's final season and the completion of a rough edit that was screened as part of Duke University's Fresh Docs series at the Full Frame Theater in Durham, NC.
